Removing intimate images posted without consent

• You, if you are the person shown.
• Someone acting for you: a parent or guardian, a lawyer, or anyone you have asked to do this for you.

The form does not ask about your relationship to whoever posted it.

The law says a valid request has four things:

1. Where it is. Paste the web address to where it appears.
2. Your name, typed. Typing your name in the form counts as your signature.
3. A statement that you did not agree to it being posted. There is a box to tick.
4. A way to reach you. An email address is enough.

The form also asks whether the person shown is under 18. If you do not know, choose “I am not sure”. The form accepts that answer, and it does not ask for an age or for any document.

Tell us where the image is by pasting the web address to where it appears. That is all we need to find it.

Do not attach, upload, or email the image itself, and do not post a copy anywhere else in order to link to it. The form has no way to attach a file, and the law does not ask for one. Sending the image around is part of the harm, and if the person shown is under 18 it can be a crime to send it at all, even to us, even to get it removed.

When the form records your request, the next screen shows a reference number. Keep it, and quote it if you write to us.

Within 48 hours

If your request is valid, the law requires us to remove the content from Fanfares within 48 hours of receiving it.

The law also requires us to make reasonable efforts to find and remove identical copies.

We may contact you at the email address you gave us if we need more information.

The form does not ask for the image, an ID, a fee, an account, or the person's age or any document about it.

What you send is used to handle your request. It is not posted publicly. It goes to the people at Fanfares who handle removal requests. Submitting the form does not send your request to the person who posted the content.

We may have to share it where the law requires, for example under a court order, a subpoena, or a legally required report about a child.

Fanfares is a client for nostr, an open network. Content is published to servers called relays that we do not own, and files can be copied to other hosts and other websites. We can remove content from Fanfares. We cannot reach into servers that belong to other people.

Where content appears to show the sexual abuse of a child, United States law requires us to report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and to preserve a copy for investigators instead of destroying it. That report can be passed to law enforcement.
